Again about 6F out in the Derby, Lambourn and Wayne inject a bit of pace before the descent into Tattenham Corner. Matey on the phone must be betting in running.

The main man walking the course at Epsom on Saturday. I shouted hello and Aidan came over, smiled, chatted briefly, let me have a selfie, and went on his way. A humble and respectful man with great humility. Thank you.

The 12th anniversary of the passing of Sir Henry Cecil and an apt time to repeat one of his famous quotes that I am sure we can all learn from and help us aspire to be better people: “Think deeply. Speak gently. Love much. Laugh often. Work hard. Give freely and be kind.”

Going through some of my photos from Epsom on Derby Day this one took my breath away. This is the Twilight Son filly, out of a Dark angel mare, SUNFALL. What an absolute beauty. Cheveley Park Stud David O'Meara

6.25am today. Such a beautiful time of year that we need to embrace and enjoy. It’s a long winter. Dogs walked on Chingford Plain. Birdsong and relaxation. Sad that Poppy, Pebbles and me are ageing now but the new Queen of the pack, young Betsy, has years in front of her.

Sometimes you see a performance that gives you goosebumps. That was one of those occasions. Travelled sweetly and effortlessly, quickened instantly to win his race, extended and won doing cartwheels. His Dad will be very proud. Brilliant to see. #fieldofgold #kingman

Royal Ascot day one crowd 45,551 up 4% compared to 43,791 last year. All of them treated to a seriously top-level performance from Field Of Gold in the St James's Place Stakes. Going remains Good to Firm, Good in places. Plan to water 5mm both courses tonight.

I was a massive Kingman fan. One of my most memorable days on a racecourse was the day Kingman won the SJP and watching Field of Gold at the Curragh + again today, he has inherited his Dad’s turn of foot…..but his transition from travelling to quickening is even more impressive.

A big week for Kingman and a big week for Golden Horn too so perhaps an appropriate time to remember Michael Curran who looked after both these horses at Clarehaven and loved them both dearly, but sadly was to take his own life. My tribute to Michael…. michaelharris17.blogspot.com/2020/05/goodby…
