A timely interview where I share a bit about my trajectory, which is tightly linked to herbaria. Herbaria are treasure troves of biodiversity that allow us to study the present, reconstruct the past, and make predictions about the future, a crucial skill under climate change.

For me this is the crux of the matter. Some people may be wondering—if the collections are going to end up in another herbarium, what is the big deal? The specimens and their data will still be protected, right? But that isn't the whole story... 🧵 1/n

🙋‍♀️ My first research experience was in New York Botanical Garden's herbarium. The mentorship & experiences there confirmed that plant bio was the field for me & led directly to where I am now. I'm heartbroken for trainees who won't be able to fall in love with plants if the Duke University herbarium closes
