🔬New insights on bacterial histones! 🧬 Our study, led by Yimin Hu & @SammyBoterhammy, shows that in Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus, HBb bends DNA uniquely, differently from eukaryotic & archaeal histones. Great collaboration with Birte Hernandez, Remus T. Dame. @MPIBio LeidenScience ENG

We have a new story out at BiorXiv! Amazing work led by Zachary Curtis (Bisson), Pedro Escudeiro (Alva) and John Mallon (Bisson). Great collaboration with Vikram Alva (Max Planck) and Mechthild Pohlschroder (UPenn). A summary of our findings in the thread (1/22) shorturl.at/fLPR1

Thrilled to share our latest preprint on BiorXiv! A fantastic team effort led by Zachary Curtis, Pedro Escudeiro, and John Mallon! Check out Alex Bisson's thread for a quick dive into our exciting findings! 🔬

🔬Excited to share the revised version of our manuscript on the bacterial histone HBb from Bdellovibrio, led by Yimin Hu and @SammyBoterhammy. A fantastic collaboration with Birte Hernandez Alvarez, Remus T. Dame, Marcus Hartmann. @MPI_Bio LeidenScience ENG biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

I am excited to share our new preprint on the structure of S-layers. The work is a collaboration between Oxford Chemistry (Ed Johnston and myself) and Buse Isbilir and @TBharat_lab at @MRC_LMB and Vikram Alva at @MPI_Bio. 🧵 1/11 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Excited to share our new preprint on S-layers! We've modeled ~150 S-layers spanning the prokaryotic tree of life. Great collaboration with Ed Johnston, Jonathan Doye at Oxford Chemistry, Buse Isbilir, @TBharat_lab at @MRC_LMB, and myself at @MPI_Bio.

Some bacteria have proteins much like ours that organise their DNA. Biochemists from Remus T. Dame & the @MPI_Bio reveal this in a new paper. Their work helps us better understand evolution & how bacteria organise their DNA. Read: universiteitleiden.nl/en/news/2024/0… Vikram Alva @SammyBoterhammy

Thrilled to share our manuscript on bacterial histone HBb from Bdellovibrio in Nucleic Acids Res! We report DNA-bound HBb structures, showing its DNA bending properties. I am very pleased to share our recent study on prokaryotic histone structure and diversity nature.com/articles/s4146… Great work by PhD student @SammyBoterhammy. With Aimee Boyle, Vikram Alva, Birte Hernandez Alvarez, Yimin Hu, @MPI_Bio, Leiden Science

New paper online PNASNews! Great collab with Vikram Alva, Pohlschroder Lab, Amy Schmid and inspiring team work within the Bisson lab. PNAS: shorturl.at/tzNqn Preprint: shorturl.at/Wi58N Blurb: shorturl.at/vMZsZ highlights below (1/4)

This story started 5y ago with my lab. Spearheaded by fearless 1st authors theopi and Olivia Leland. Theopi is now a PhD student at Brown University. Olivia is a physics PhD student at Brandeis University, a self-taught biologist, and made us love soft matter. A (very long) thread (1/24)
