This weekโ€™s โ€œlongโ€ run - ran harder than intended but was hard to resist given the relatively cool morning in Hanoi - only 78 at 6:20 am! #running ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

Ran pretty much my โ€œusualโ€ 10 k run today but on treadmill in an air conditioned gym as opposed to outdoors in the heat & humidity of Hanoi. Would usually be a zone 3, even 4, run, was basically entirely a zone 2 today. #running

Great to take part in todayโ€™s Bishan Park #parkrun while visiting Singapore! Pleased with my 8th place overall finish in 21 min 40 s, esp. given itโ€™s my 1st โ€œraceโ€ since Feb. & Iโ€™ve been focussing on building a base for a half-marathon with no real speed work yet #running ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐ŸŽฝ

Wow, that was hard today! Brutal heat & esp humidity (a โ€œfeels likeโ€ temp of 38 degree C) by the time I finished at 7 am made my โ€œeasy/steadyโ€ run much more difficult than normal with massive HR drift, even though Iโ€™m used to training in high temps in Hanoi & Cairo #running #heat

Just over 10 weeks now to my 1st official half-marathon in Hanoi. Todayโ€™s training - 11 km. Easy during first 5.5 km, but with 2 x 1.5 km + 1 x 1 km surges with job recovery on way back home #running #HalfMarathon

Urban econ is fast becoming the most directly policy-relevant research area. Combination of new data inside cities, along with rising important of urban problems. Our 10-year plan at Development Data Lab is to bring the same data/energy to cities in the developing world.

I first read in Alain Bertaud about the spatial problems in South Africa - very dispersed Black populations far from jobs, as a product both of Apartheid and post-Apartheid housing development Very nice paper here which quantifies the costs of these spatial frictions
