A lot of modern empirical economics is just empirical analysis of random policies. It has very little to do with markets and less to do with Marx. There's no particular reason why the policy eval folks would learn anything from reading Marx

"Democracy is threatened unless we're allowed to control the flow of information on social media" is among the worst ideas in the discourse from being naive about how persuasion works to kind of lowkey authoritarian.

Should be noted now, before it's forgotten to time, that the current Seanad rules - requiring 'counting' to continue even when the winners are established - is an enormous waste of time for count staff, who have lost three or four hours' time to a purely academic nuisance

On Laura’s 6th anniversary, we once again renew her appeal to parents whose teenagers have been offered the HPV vaccine to avail of this life saving opportunity. Combined with cervical screening Ireland can eliminate cervical cancers. #ProtectOurFuture #ThankYouLaura

Perhaps my biggest pet peeve is when people start thinking about some area of research for the first time and they don't bother to learn anything about it. They talk and talk about claims that have already been tested as if no one has thought about the area at all before.

Beneath Dublin Airport lies a secret. You may have walked through it. You may have checked in your bags there. But it was never meant for passengers. It was meant for trains. 🚇 This is the 100 year story of how Dublin never got a metro:

A heartbreaking moment that was saved by an SS photographer at Auschwitz II-Birkenau during the deportations of Hungarian Jews. It was taken 81 years ago, most likely in late May 1944. A little child finds a dandelion in the grass and is handing it or showing it to an older

This whole thread is important—critical even—for universities to retain their credibility (and, for some, existence) We are at a critical juncture: higher ed can either reverse course and reorient back to education & science, or continue slide towards irrelevance (or worse).
