Mukhtar put together a fantastic exhibition in Birmingham last year, documenting how South Asians in the 70s and 80s fought back against the racism of both street gangs and the state. He kindly allowed me to use photos from his archive for the piece.

'We stood on the shoulders of giants; we learned from them and organised to take the struggle forward. My message to young people today is that we have a legacy, a glorious history of struggle. Take that forward. Use it as a bulwark to inform you, to inspire you and to organise.'
