On this day in 1971, Simone Langenhoff, aged 6, was killed while cycling to school; hit by a speeding driver. Her death and the movement started by her father, Vic Langenhoff, a newspaper journalist, changed an entire country and saved thousands of Dutch lives. Here's how 🧵

An absolutely disgraceful decision made by anti cycle lane fanatics at the council. This road carries 7k motor vehicles a day so the image below is laughable. This is a scheme that puts the needs of car drivers above all others, particularly local primary school children

This is the scene outside Hackney New Primary school. How could you not be convinced that cycle lanes are needed here on a road that carries 7k vehicles a day. Local school children will be brought up for another generation cycling on the footway to get to school safely

The City of London has launched a consultation on its plans for the Barbican, Bunhill and Golden Lane LTN. if they go for the full option it should dramatically improve north-south and east-west cycle routes through the area …glhealthyneighbourhood.commonplace.is

Jon Stone (@joncstone) 's Twitter Profile Photo

most crucial bit for cycling is imo that they go with option 1 on Beech Street - a full through traffic restrictions - rather than option 2 which would just make it one-way. Worth responding to this (and supporting filters in the other sections if you have time)

This is a great little scheme from Islington which unlocks the low traffic cycling route from Clissold to Dalston, avoiding Green Lanes. Well done Islington Council Rowena Champion

Culture war-based coverage of cycling based on stereotypes of middle-aged men in Lycra could harm the nation’s health because it shifts focus away from the people and communities who benefit from physical activity, Chris Whitty has said. theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/j…
