This photo, taken at Birnam in July 1893, captures the 5th (Perthshire Highland) Volunteer Battalion during their annual camp. Taking place every summer, these camps were enjoyed as a holiday and a break from the routines of civilian life for these volunteers. #TheBlackWatch

On 8 May 1945, the guns fell silent across Europe, bringing an end to 6 years of conflict. Today we remember the courage, sacrifice, & service of all who gave so much in the fight for freedom, those who served, those who returned, & those who never did. #VEDay80 #VEDay
