The longer I'm in academia, the more I see a resemblance between our field and professional sports. But I think folks in pro sports understand and embrace the competitive aspect and difficult parts of training in a more honest and healthier way. This advice resonated:

Should we not all make a more public pitch towards preserving science right now? Like, academia has its problems but is an amazing power for good. E.g. Car-T cancer therapy is saving many lives. Wouldn't have happend without NIH indirect costs. There are a million examples.

A simple quantum truth that never ceases to delight: We spend our lives floating on a sea of repelling electrons. We never truly touch anything. What we call "touch" is just the sensation of our electrons pushing against the electrons in everything around us.

Insects are vanishing even in untouched reserves. Nothing is isolated—climate, chemicals, habitat loss, invasive species, even renewables. The web is unraveling everywhere at once. Ecologists’ horror as nature reserves are emptied of insects theguardian.com/environment/20…

I keep seeing my sun footage from this video shared without context, so figured I’d post it again so you can ask questions to me directly! No AI or CGI was used in the creation of this video- just the raw power of the sun and a solar telescope in my backyard!

Dopamine from information gathering is a dangerous drug. Your entire life will change the moment you stop looking for more information and start acting on the information you already have. Always get your dopamine from action.
