This morning one of our #WildSoil Ph.D. fellows, Frederik N Philipsen, presented an outline of his project “Rewilding effects on soil GHG exchange” before colleagues in the Section for Forest, Nature, and Biomass at the University of Copenhagen🦬🌳 Things are moving, big plans ahead!

Went dung-hunting in MolsLab, Denmark this week to initiate investigations of GHG-hotspots in rewilded landscapes as part of WildSoil. How long does dung persist as GHG moments and what are contributions to landscape-scale soil GHG fluxes? Thx to Ming Yu helping out!

5 days 6 fieldwork fanatics 40 km traversed 175 soil GHG fluxes and topsoils sampled Frederik N Philipsen and Joanne O'Keeffe completed the first of 4 megacampaigns at Molslaboratoriet (Naturhistorisk Museum Aarhus) with lots of help from Jeppe Å. Kristensen, Jesper Riis Christiansen, @EcologyRoo and Heidi Larsen🌳

Older hedgerows (>30y) contribute to long term soil organic carbon (SOC) storage 🌳🍃🍂 Our new article compared SOC (in POM + MAOM) under hedgerows and adjacent arable fields along a 70y chronosequence. Article link: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… #soil #carbon #agriculture

Having a great time at Québec RE3 Conference 2023 conference on Reclaiming, Restoring and Rewilding. Had the pleasure of presenting a poster on early stage work of my PhD. Great to get the conversation going about how large herbivores may change GHG-fluxes and soil C & N pools. WildSoil

130 gas flux measurements and soil cores across 5 days in the strict reserve at Białowieża National Park. Special thanks to Mammal Research Institute PAS and our colleagues there Marcin Churski and Dries Kuijper for all the help! Looking forward to the many analyses awaiting us🌳🦬🌲
