Everyday before we start parliamentary business in the Commons and Lords we say a prayer and praise God - we say our parliamentary version of Allah hu Akbars at the heart of democracy - a process Robert Jenrick is a part of. This language from Jenrick is more of his usual nasty

Six weeks into a new government, what do initial policy announcements mean for mental health? Thea is joined by Kadra Abdinasir to unpack election pledges, the King's Speech, the Mental Health Bill, the two child limit - and Wes Streeting's comments about the NHS being broken 👇

The number of child strip searches by police is hugely concerning (3,000 btwn 2018-mid 2023). Strip searches on children are invasive, humiliating and can cause long term psychological harm. Black children are 4x more likely to be strip-searched than the overall child population.

Two years after the Child Q scandal and this is where we are with Black children in England and Wales four times more likely to be strip-searched. The disproportionate and racist use of policing tools has to end. theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

As Andy Bell & I explored recently, the language that is used to shape our benefits system really matters. It is great to see Liz Kendall today pledging to end the divisive rhetoric & blame culture towards people on benefits. This is important for mental health policy making.

NEW: Analysis from Joseph Rowntree Foundation ahead of the Chancellor's spring statement this week shows families worse off by £1400 by 2030. This would mean missing the PM’s living standards milestone and could be the first govt since 1955 to see a fall in living standards across a parliament.
