#BJSstats: About 38% of violent victimizations in urban areas were reported to police, which was lower than the percentages in suburban (43%) and rural (51%) areas.

#BJSstats: Among jurisdictions with prisoners under sentence of death at yearend 2023, 13 states reported a decrease in the number of prisoners, 13 states and Federal Bureau of Prisons reported no change, and no states reported an increase.

Findings from a BJS report on deaths in federal custody show that, in FY 2023, homicides accounted for the largest portion (41%) of arrested-related deaths, followed by accidents (32%) and suicides (19%).
