With better provisioning of social protection, skills training, and improved workplace safety, the construction sector has the potential to absorb more women, especially migrants, into productive paid work. Piece by Divya Ravindranath and me in The Hindu today.

Goal of policymaking should be to bring out the best possible outcome(s) and not avert the worst possible outcome(s) or keep plugging holes. Sadly most policymaking is the latter or worse - decision paralysis.

True that! In large families in particular, much of women's time (and a major part of their life) in spent on planning and preparing meals as per "interests" of multiple family members.

The thing about being a Mumbaikar living in another city is that we do not buy "it was raining so we couldn't come to work" excuse that easily. Unless the world comes to an end (aka local trains are halted), you just show up!
