Standardized testing doesn’t measure learning. It measures compliance. And we’ve built an entire system around it.

We talk about student agency... But how much agency do teachers actually have? → You can’t empower kids in a system that infantilizes adults.

I'll say it because you are probably not in a position where it is safe to... Most leaders are the problem in education. Not all. But enough that it's a pattern.

Being the “go-to problem solver” feels good...until it doesn’t. When your solutions threaten power, you’re no longer welcome. That’s when you know it’s time to stop waiting for your seat at the table, and build your own damn table instead.

We say we value critical thinking in education. But critical thinkers often get labeled as difficult. That’s not a culture of learning...it’s a culture of control. (...and I'm not just talking about students 👀)

Every student brings brilliance to the room. But only certain types get recognized. The rest get remediated.

Instructional leadership isn’t about enforcing the "best practices" of a school. If people say, "That's the way we do things here." ...you have a problem. Real leadership is about helping people think differently. →Compliance is not growth.

We keep saying kids have changed. They are "out of control" these days. That they won't return to normal post-pandemic. →But what if they’re just reacting rationally to a system that doesn’t work anymore?

The passion with which people cling to their traditional grading practices will always have everything to do with compliance and control. You won't change my mind on this.

The people most passionate about changing education are the most likely to burn out. Not because they’re weak. Because the system resists change harder than it rewards vision.

Real learning is messy, emotional, nonlinear. But we’ve built a system that punishes all three. No wonder so many students check out.
