Just read an article explaining that people with ADHD gravitate to the tasks at work they enjoy while finding the more mundane aspects harder to focus on. I'm fairly sure the correct diagnostic label for that is 'human being'.

Mixed responses to this and I'm regretting causing upset/offense. To be clear, I don't doubt that many people suffer greatly from the traits we call ADHD. I was just trying to make the point that such broad descriptions serve nobody (least of all those who are really struggling).

I didn't enjoy being at receiving end of a (granted, modest) Xitter pile-on. Hate feeling misunderstood and doubly hate upsetting people. On plus side, I used it to talk to my daughter abt perils of social media & limitations of categorical diagnoses. (And she still loves me.)

If I'd spent as long writing poems as I spent writing a failed Arts Council bid to support me in writing poems, I'd have a bloody collection by now.

The main thing I've learnt since posting this is that twitter very much prefers my puppy to my poetry.

I get it now. We project complex, layered feelings onto pets while simultaneously coveting their uncomplicated interiority. This game throws humanity into sharp relief. We love them because they speak to some prelapsarian version of ourselves. Also, they have cute little faces.

I won't keep bangin' on abt this, but I am so grateful that my debut (only) novel is back on the shelves. It's too easy for books to disappear after publication, so the thought of this story finding new readers after ten long years means the world to me. Thank you The Borough Press.

I’m calling it. ChatGPT-4o is a brilliant therapist. If you spend a bit of time discussing the tone and intellectual rigour that is valuable for you then it is the fucking bomb. I have been using it in this capacity for months and it is life-changing.
