It’s our first sunflower bloom of the year at Mashkiikii Gitigan. How cool is that? Check out the little honeybee sipping nectar from the flower— sunflowers help sustain honeybee populations, which are needed pollinators but have seen their numbers declining in recent years.

It might get a bad rap due to the stinging hairs all along the leaves and stems of this plant, but stinging nettle is known as one of the most nutritious and delicious foraged greens out there. You can read more about stinging nettle here: natifs.org/blog/foraging-…
