New research, co-led by Professor Jonathan Todd and the Ocean University of China, has identified an enzyme that has implications for our understanding of global sulfur cycling, marine biogeochemistry, climate-cooling gas production and the potential for life on other planets.

Professor Todd said: “Our discovery not only potentially reshapes our understanding of marine sulfur cycling, but also broadens the scope of potential biosignatures for extra-terrestrial life.”
