Late post, but happy that I got to meet with my fellow #IRadRes at the start of the year before the call weekend. Congrats to the recent graduates, and welcome to our new interns and those handing off their surgery pagers!

Thank you, Terumo Interventional Systems for setting up an educational session for the residents and medical students of @VUMCradiology! Our trainees were able to do simulated arterial cases, practice radial and pedal access, perfect arterial closure, and deploy multiple embolics.

1/Feeling broken up when it comes to LeFort fractures? My fellows complained they hate memorizing classifications like LeFort. I thought, “There must be a better way—maybe understanding instead of memorizing.” A thread so you can understand LeFort & never memorize again!

which hospital system has the best scrubs..? Outta the 6-7 I’ve been at UVA still leads by a mile. Thicker cloth and embroidered logo. Also darker scrubs = less stains show (yes I stole a few pairs of grays). Other systems take note

A quick 🧵 on market competition and the cost of applying to residency… For years, the Association of American Medical Colleges had a near-monopoly on the residency application software market. And every year, they raised the fees on ERAS. Just a little. Every single year.

Naturally, this was presented as part of their “unwavering commitment to addressing serious challenges in the transition” to residency. But if you think they did this for any reason other than fear of losing business to a competitor… I’ve got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

There are lots of monopolies in the medical education space - and often any talk of competition is met with a lot of hand-wringing and feigned concern about how the organization is soooo important and valuable that any competition could only harm learners. Don’t believe it.
