Howard S. Becker, my dear former teacher and mentor died yesterday afternoon in his beloved San Francisco at 95. He rested peacefully at home and was in no pain. I will always remember Howie, and the careful instruction he gave to me as a young qualitative field worker. RIP.

Post-retirement, Howie Becker was a quiet supporter and mentor to a wave of young researchers though his reader reports at U of Chicago Press (w/Doug Mitchell). With my eternal gratitude, I want to honor him with a Best of Howie thread. Add your favs, if desired. RIP, pen pal.
