Curlew in Kildare. CCT is back. Last sighting was 12th Feb. 2025. Where did he get to during breeding season? 2025 was the first year there was no observation of CCT on traditional breeding site. The moult and the heat makes for a lot of scratching.

Ononis repens var. horrida (Ref. Green P. {2025}). A botanical variety of the plant commonly known as restharrow, part of the Fabaceae (legume) family. This variety is often spiny, which is reflected in the name “horrida” (Latin for “rough” / “bristly”). Observed June '25 Ardmore

Wheatear: Kildare bogs are frequently used by Wheatear during Autumn migration, this male Wheatear who seems to be moulting (or something else is going on) was observed on the 2nd of July 2025. Summers in Ireland and spends Winter in Africa

Greater knapweed, Centaurea scabiosa, Irish Name: Mínscoth mhór, with Painted lady butterfly. This plant species is classed as NEAR THREATENED in the Red Data List of Vascular Plants 2016 ref. wildflowersofireland.net (biodiversityireland.ie/surveys/rare-p…) only 5 plants in '24, but 12 in '25.

Comma butterfly. The first confirmed report of the Comma in the Republic of Ireland was in 2000 in Co. Wexford (O'Donnell & Wilson, 2009). It is now consistently recorded each year throughout the south and east ref. species.biodiversityireland.ie/profile.php...
