Falls are a common problem in people with MS, can we use patient reported outcomes and gait testing to identify those at risk? Here we present a clinical scoring tool for fall risk assessment. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/20…

The risk of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder #NMOSD is highest in Black people, followed by Asian/Pacific Islands, then Hispanic people, and lowest in White people. A contemporary, multi-ethnic cohort study from Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles County ▶️ journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.117…

Delighted to share Cacciaguerra et al study ➡️ MRI guidelines in MS recommend 2 sagittal-T2 spine images but axial is optional ➡️ Here, axial-T2 found 2x more lesions vs sagittal ➡️ Thus, future guidelines should recommend both sagittal & axial images👇 link.springer.com/article/10.100…

Delighted to share Dinoto et al study on late onset MOGAD (50 yrs or more) ➡️ Accounts for 25% of MOGAD ➡️ Optic neuritis dominates & often misdiagnosed as ischemic (NAION or temporal arteritis) ➡️ Outcomes favorable & similar to other age groups 👇 neurology.org/doi/10.1212/WN…

Falls in people with #MultipleSclerosis are more frequent in patients who are older, have higher disability, slower walking, and worse balance. Study using patient-reported outcomes and wearable gait metrics from Samantha Banks Mayo Clinic Neuro ▶️ journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…

Neutropenia (low neutrophils, a type of white blood cell) is a rare side effect of b-cell depleting drugs (ocrevus, rituximab, briumvi, kesimpta) and occurs "at a rate of 0.66 per 100 person-years" and can cause infections. (from UC San Francisco) pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40537081/

This Father’s Day marked 17 years since my brother died handcuffed to a hospital bed. His story is a reminder of how urgent the fight for health equity remains. Thank you NEJM for sharing his story. nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…

In this single-center study, large racial differences in time to clinical events for Black versus White ALS patients referred for NIV, AAC, hospice, and wheelchair were reported, suggesting more advanced disease or more rapid progression pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40065593/

Proud to be one of the co-authors of this series on gender affirming care and interventions in MS. Without trying to understand all types of people living with MS, we cannot claim to provide equitable care to all.
