In 1984 Hansen and Spuhler created the Heterogeneous Stock (HS) rats by interbreeding 8 inbred strains (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6391259; pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31228160). The 100th generation of that cross was born today at UC San Diego Health Sciences, almost 40 years later! πŸŽ‚ πŸ€ πŸ₯³ πŸŽ‚ πŸ€ πŸ₯³ πŸŽ‚ πŸ€ πŸ₯³ πŸŽ‚

Full house at our lab journal club today! πŸ“š We engaged in a thought-provoking discussion on the potential impact of introducing the term 'preaddiction' for early-stage #SubstanceUseDisorders and explored alternative approaches. Great insights from everyone! #deguglielmolab

In Turkish, instead of writing "et al." which corresponds to "and others," they write "ve ark." which corresponds to "and friends." I love it.

What a journey! Started as a student with zero experience and grew into the researcher I am today all because Giordano took a chance on me. On top of that, I was surrounded the best coworkers in the world πŸ’–πŸ˜ Forever grateful for this chapter πŸ₯Ή #imsorryicriedsomuch

Last year, when navigating #gradschool applications, I relied greatly on advice from mentors, friends, and online resources. I wrote down their many helpful insights, and I hope they can help anyone else applying to #PhD programs. mapostol.medium.com/advice-for-app…

πŸ€ Please RT πŸ€ RATTACA is back at #SfN24 β€” come see us tomorrow at Booth #1828. RATTACA uses polygenic risk scores to predict behavioral traits in outbred rats. Now you can study genetic predisposition to substance abuse in drug naive rats! Details at ratgenes.org/rattaca

Thrilled to share our latest paper in Neuropharmacology in collaboration with the Dr Francesca Telese and Abraham Palmer Labs at UC San Diego Department of Psychiatry. We explored how perinatal fentanyl exposure promotes persistent addiction vulnerability and alters gene expression in the central amygdala

Excited to share our latest paper in Neuropsychopharmacology! Chronic CBD mitigates alcohol dependence, reduces withdrawal symptoms, & offers neuroprotection in BLA & striatum in rat AUD models. Congrats to 1st author Selen Dirik! Thanks to Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research (CMCR) funding for the pilot that sparked this.
