Baurzhan Ibrayev of NNWI Central Asia said today in Astana that the construction of a #nuclear power plant is an important step forward for the Central Asian region, and some of Kazakhstan’s neighbours such as Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, have already made first steps.

“By 2035, 26.5 GW of new generation capacity will be introduced as part of #energymix plan”, Gulmira Mursalova, Deputy Director of the Department of Atomic Energy and Industry at the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, said at the NNWI Central Asia event today.

Aldiyar Toktarov of the Association for the Development of Nuclear Industry said that “#Kazakhstan is, in general, an export country. The bulk of this is #uranium exports. And the construction of a #nuclear power plant will help produce its own fuel and even export it.“

Director of the Atomic Energy and Industry Department of the Kazakhstan Ministry of Energy, Gumar Sergazin, said that "the construction of a #nuclear power plant is very important for #Kazakhstan, and that preparations for the #referendum on 6 October 2024 are underway".
