This morning Canon David Neale presided at the Eucharist for the feast of St Michael and All Angels, on the anniversary of his ordination as a priest in the Cathedral 40 years ago. There was cake afterwards!

Representatives of different churches together for an ecumenical service in the Cathedral this evening on the theme of friendship.

Work on the St Luke’s Chapel & Chancel complete, scaffolding down & now we can see the extra hopper & downpipe in the corner to prevent the rain water flowing from the roofs soaking the walls when it rains hard. Some repointing too. Now to wait for the walls to dry out.

This Thursday there will be an opportunity to come along to the Cathedral and hear more about plans in Newport for the Prince of Wales' Homewards initiative to ensure that homelessness becomes rare, brief and unrepeated. Thursday 10th October, 7.30pm.

We are expecting a large number of people in and around the Cathedral for a funeral at 1.30pm this afternoon. There is likely to be disruption in the area and parking restrictions are in place around the Cathedral. Thank you for your understanding as a family grieves their son.

Our MPs were in our prayers this morning as they debate the Assisted Dying Bill. There are powerful arguments with compassion and dignity on both sides. The Dean has been in touch with both of our MPs for this city to let them know they are in our prayers.

Due to the red weather warning for tomorrow morning, we have decided not to open the Cathedral until 12noon on Saturday 7th December. There will therefore be no Eucharist at 9.00am.

It’s still very windy round the Cathedral this morning so we are remaining closed until later this afternoon, when we hope the wind drops. We seem to have escaped without any major damage. We hope you have too.
