Just heard the news about the great Sly Stone. One of the most influential figures in modern music. And one of the most unique. Revisiting my 2023 interview with him here. thetimes.com/article/d7d26c…

Er, I'm glad the spending review says it provides "a significant increase in funding for the creative industries as one of the government’s eight growth driving sectors" just wish that was borne out by the table directly above that statement

So a budget cut for the DCMS in Rachel’s spending review, and the American tech giants given a free pass to ignore UK copyright laws so their AI bots can steal the output of our creative industries as they like. Lucky the Labour Gov is so supportive of British culture, isn’t it?

I have been thinking of my friends and colleagues in the #Chorus at WNO this week, who have been forced to re-audition for their jobs. They will hear next week which 2 will be served their notice to exit the company, along with the 8 already departed. Absolutely grim. #SaveWNO

Grange Park now announces its Ring Cycle will be performed by ...the ENO orchestra. Consider the Rubicon crossed: ENO, a (still) publicly funded company, abandoned its own Ring Cycle. Now to keep the wolf from its door it's being paid to perform the Ring in a Surrey festival.

Neil Fisher That was my first thought too! While I’m glad they won’t starve, wouldn’t it be lovely if they could be playing it where thousands more people could be hearing it for far lower ticket prices?
