Saw the bag, knew he'd be an open-mouth crisp eater, and went for my headphones. As he ripped apart the chips, I fumbled with my headphones. I got the earbuds in, but my phone let me down. In the time it took Spotify to fire up, I was well and truly lip-smackingly crunched. Fail.

Look out for Ghost Ship with The Madrid Review next week. A poem about strange nights at sea inspired by two years of living and working on board a Japanese NGO.

Not been to the Marquis in Leicester for a while, as too expensive. Popped in with a mate this evening. 'I'll get them,' I said cheerily, thinking of the closed down pubs in the city. I was less cheery when I paid. How much do you think this little round set me back?

Surprised no one else thought to post a poem by Stanley Plumly today. It pleases me to think that the Palmer House he refers to here is the one Frank Lloyd Wright built in Ann Arbor.

I'm in Worcester, a very pleasant city (it has a cathedral) in the rain. Therefore, sheltering in a bar with a beer, and wondering (without Google) who is famous and from here? I know about Elgar, but who else...

Sitting in a pub garden. Pubs are great. I spent a lot of my childhood listening to folk bands in pubs; heavy velvet curtains, old men with beards, bees lazily dozing into pints. Long live the pub.

“The question of whether AI can or can’t currently write good literature is, for now, a red herring, a distraction from the fact that the Data Bill would constitute a legalization of theft and a decimation of an industry.” Katherine Rundell in The TLS. the-tls.co.uk/literature/hay…
