What makes a perfect soil pit?? Keiron Derek Brown is not bad at them - as found out on Chilterns National Landscape #farmercluster earthworm surveys. Abundance vs diversity 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ Opening up new world of subterranean citizen science with a few hail storms, frozen fields and lots laughs too 👍👏🪱🪱

The world is still turning - pair of Curlew back on their usual field at Shabbington on my BTO Wetland Bird Survey River Thame CT earlier. 6 more upstream @ Ickford & 2 downstream at Waterstock - bang on their average arrival dates with a few more still to come in next few days 🎉🎉

Bird ringing demo a highlight of Chiltern Rangers Chilterns National Landscape #NewShoots programme & this morning didn’t disappoint. Great birds, great discussion on value of ringing, great insight into reed-beds & perfect conditions. Thanks Tring Ringing Group & Buckinghamshire Council for your support

This gorgeous male Bluethroat was trapped in Plantation this afternoon. Such a nice bird to see up close. Fair Isle Bird Observatory

Not many words to adequately sum up today! A spring male Pallas’s Reed Bunting was the perfect reminder of what a magic place Fair Isle is, and of the brilliant people I get to share these birds with. 5th for Britain 3rd(!) for Fair Isle Bird Observatory

Holy shiiittttt SCOPS OWL Fair Isle Bird Observatory another Alex Penn special. This spring just gets better !!!! BirdGuides

When a Chilterns National Landscape #farmercluster member sends a video over asking what bird is this & it turns out to be a Montagu’s Harrier it’s a bit rude to not share in their excitement (& pride) … what an amazing bird 🎉🎉 Love working with knowledgable & enthused farmers …

A trio of gorgeous Dunlin chicks Fair Isle Bird Observatory. Shortly after ringing and releasing the chicks, one of the adults came over and brooded them just a few metres away!
