I criticise NIMBYs a lot, so it's only fair to give praise where praise is due. 👏 Virendra Sharma I completely agree with this letter

Loved being at County Councils Network Annual Conference the last couple of days, talking about some of the challenges and opportunities facing county areas. Great to be able to talk through new Henham political analysis about why counties really matter for the next General Election too.

In July I published Retail Therapy with Centre for Policy Studies, outlining various measures to get more people investing in stock and shares. I called for a new Tell Sid moment & suggested the Govt should sell its NatWest shares to individual investors - great to see these ideas picked up!

Standing room only for Institute for Government event on devolution and regional growth. Insightful comments from Jim McMahon MP Oliver Coppard Sebastian Payne and Sophie White from Aviva Investors . All agree direction of travel is only one way and v positive - but much further to go.

Good to see the Chancellor embracing Centre for Policy Studies's proposals (via Nick King & John Redwood) for using NatWest share sales to drive ownership.

Pyrotechnic football writing on deadline by Jonathan Liew in trying to describe how badly 🏴 played tonight

Thanks to Michael Lynas and Duolingo for a fascinating session with David Blunkett, camilla cavendish and Lord Mandelson this evening. Bashing the unions, criticising some university leadership - yet also offering a positive vision for the future of UK Universities. V insightful.

This piece by the CEO of Timothy Taylor's Brewery brewery shd be required reading for politicians / officials who haven’t worked outside govt. A sad indictment of current and recent governments (including ones I worked in) failing to support the private sector thetimes.com/article/32992c…
