To give a sense of the scale of citation market - how many people are paying brokers to get their shabby papers cited (& to elevate their academic metrices) - here's a review paper where the last *4½ pages* are a stream of absurd, irrelevant references. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Open letter from a group of sleuths re problems with editors/papers at Scientific Reports deevybee.blogspot.com/2024/10/an-ope… They've published 23K papers in 2024 with APC of £2090, raising £48 million from this journal alone, so should be able to put resource into cleaning this up.

A papermill boasting about how they've flooded a Scopus journal. 28 papers last year, 1,110 so far this year and they're already into 2025.

Please, Scientific Reports do not claim that this paper was ever per reviewed. I think it is cryptic message (presented as XRD patterns) or simple trolling of research world. 😂 Top 100 joke by Scientific Reports for 2024. pubpeer.com/publications/6…

A new paper! We use potential flow to find analytic solutions describing the fluid flow generated by a kind of welding exhaust, allowing directional suction and more efficient pollutant capture. royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…

In 2013, I wrote a book about educational myths. I *didn't* include learning styles. Why? Because even in 2013, so much research had already been published showing they were bunk. Didn't feel worth me going over it all again. It's now 2024. What's in The Economist ?

The author of a recent editorial complaining about retractions, who has many retractions for manipulated peer review, also asks for citations of their own papers when peer reviewing. pubpeer.com/publications/D… Stuart Ritchie 🇺🇦 Dorothy Bishop

Evidence that increasing publications are leading to higher proportions of low quality papers as evidenced by the higher retraction rates We plot the publication stats between 2020 and 2022 for major publishing countries as well as the number of retractions in the same period
