It’s London Climate Action Week. We’ve made huge progress turning London into a more climate resilient city, but there is still a long way to go to make London a cleaner and greener city for all. #LCAW2024

Some great appointments so far - Ed Miliband is the perfect energy & climate SoS; Jonathan Reynolds gets the vital importance of a green industrial strategy; David Lammy pledges to restore UK climate & nature leadership; Rachel Reeves promises to be the first green chancellor...

Now waiting for Defra. Post-Brexit & with the rising salience of the issues (water pollution, nature, food...) it really should be seen as one of the big, prominent departments!

We welcome our new Government and the hope of real change for ALL children, whose health, wellbeing and life-chances must now be a top priority. Access to safe outdoor space - to play, move and socialise for free - is key. We & allies are very ready to help make this a reality.

Great meeting with Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook MP today and discussing the role social housing can play in kickstarting economic growth. We look forward to working with the new government to deliver on its mandate to build the social and affordable homes we urgently need.

Great to see mayors being acknowledged & prioritised. The UK can't deliver on climate & nature commitments, adapting to climate impacts & accelerating a just transition to a low carbon economy without cities & local government delivering on good, sustainable growth. C40 Cities

Planning reform: could be good, could be bad for nature. With #KingsSpeech reforms ahead, a 🧵: how can Labour build green energy & fulfil its housing commitments while also restoring nature? Grateful to Matthew Pennycook MP & Steve Reed for early dialogue. bbc.co.uk/news/live/c250…

And so it begins. Lots more to come on #planningreform over the next few weeks beyond the legislative programme but great to see strategic planning specifically mentioned in the notes accompanying the #Devolution Bill 🙏🍾

This graphic is sobering on surface transport and aviation. EVs, SAFs etc. are part of the answer, but we won't be able to meet net zero (or air quality targets) if we just go on building roads & expanding airports.

It was a real pleasure to celebrate the 36 new community-led and part-self build homes built by RUSS at Church Grove this afternoon. It’s taken 15 years and vast amounts of time, energy and dedication. I’m proud that the scheme received funding from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
