In tomorrow's talk Royal Institution I'm going to attempt something new: let the audience vote on the direction they want to the talk to go in, choose your own adventure style. Massive carnage potential; tickets still available (see link). rigb.org/whats-on/event…

Some of the most helpful & clear papers I've read on using mixed models are by ecologists 🌿 Three of my favourites: (1) 'A brief introduction to mixed effects modelling and multi-model inference in ecology' (with example r code) by Xav Harrison peerj.com/articles/4794/

New paper led by Mark Dyble on relatedness in the Agta 📢🥳 in depth study on r and how it varies between and within camps, by sex and age and camp size 🤓 reflects on reproductive competition and inclusive fitness

New paper out in IC&S with Edda Humprecht @judith_moeller and @lue_jula. We experimentally studied the effects of different degrees of misinformation on COVID-19 and corrections in Germany. Main findings: (1/4)

I am very proud and excited to share my 1st first-author paper, published as part of the #ResearchTopic: The Quest for Symbolic Communication in Non-Human Animals, in Frontiers - Psychology! doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.… (1/2)

Our paper “Understanding Circumstances for Desirable Proactive Behaviour of Voice Assistants - The Proactivity Dilemma” presented by @nima_zargham at #cui2022 ACM CUI two weeks ago can now be accessed here: researchgate.net/publication/36… @MichaelBonfert @JohannesSchoeni Yvonne Rogers.

New manuscript by Viktor Kewenig Prof. Gabriella Vigliocco The LAB Lab 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ shows that context can change whether a word is processed as abstract or concrete in the brain: doi.org/10.1101/2022.0… Ecological Brain

Coming out of an ICA Information Systems session where @lue_jula presented first findings on our @WWTF project on #emotions & #misinformation. Loved the format with roundtable discussions. Thanks to everyone who joined and shared their ideas! #ica23 Computational Communication Science Lab (UNIVIE) Complexity Science Hub

Delighted that Nicole Engeler & I have just had the lab's first registered report accepted in principle Communications Psychology. Previous work as shown that uncalculating help signals trustworthiness; we are asking whether the same is true for punishment. More soon - congrats Nicole!

Really pleased that our registered report is now published online. Here’s a blog post about it which I wanted to call: How we turned a superficially simple research question into a 5-experiment, 41-hypothesis Frankenstudy” With Nicole Engeler communities.springernature.com/posts/696e9fc1…

And here is the paper. Lots of hard work by Nicole Engeler to get this over the line. Registered reports are tough! nature.com/articles/s4427…

Our registered report "Acting without considering personal costs signals trustworthiness in helpers but not punishers" was just published in Communications Psychology (Nicole Engeler as 1st author). A short thread of what we did and found. nature.com/articles/s4427…

This Registered Report replicates the finding that not checking the personal cost of helping signals trustworthiness. But, this did not extend to 3rd-party punishment situations. Nicole Engeler Prof Nichola Raihani UCL Experimental Psychology nature.com/articles/s4427…
