My first foray into polygenic risk score w/ awesome statsgen colleagues Nilanjan Chatterjee & Jin Jin: arxiv.org/abs/2401.15014. Turns out the commonly-used approx likelihood can give rise to an improper posterior! (We present a fix.) It won Yuzheng Dun an ASA student paper award 🎉

Our Statistics Science Interview of Ray Carroll about his career, joint with Nilanjan Chatterjee . Ray is an outstanding statistician and scientist. He has been a wonderful mentor of many, not just his students and postdocs, but many who are not. projecteuclid.org/journals/stati…

Huge Congratulations Ziqiao Wang! So proud to have you in my group.

I'm thrilled to share that I've started as an assistant professor in the Department of Statistics at UC Irvine's Donald Bren School of ICS (UCIbrenICS). This would not have been possible without my mentors Daniela Witten, Jacob Bien, Abhi Datta, and Nilanjan Chatterjee!

Memphis got style….welcoming liquor at hotel with Mississippi in background. Was too tempting not to try it though it’s pretty early for it. Will be honored to visit St. Jude Research tomorrow and present at the Danny Thomas Lecture Series.

Congratulations Ziqiao Wang for taking this beautiful work to finish line!

Zhi Yu earned a concurrent MHS from jhubiostat, along with her PhD from Johns Hopkins Epidemiology, in 2020, and is now an investigator and assistant professor MassGeneral Medicine. Read about her work, and her time in our program, on our website: publichealth.jhu.edu/2024/alumni-sp…

A great way to start the day, celebrating two recent promotions to Associate Professor! Debashree Ray and Genevieve Wojcik, PhD MHS are outstanding teachers and scholars! Check out their research! We are so lucky to have them here!

We have amazingly creative people in jhubiostat! Check out Jessica's haunted office photos, and those on campus Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health can stop by E3536 today if you dare!

Current polygenic risk scores require binning of ancestry groups but we know ancestry is a continuum. Our study led by Yunfeng Ruan🌻 #StandWithUkraine🌻 introduces DiscoDivas, a new generalizable PRS framework across the ancestry spectrum medrxiv.org/content/10.110… medRxiv PRIMED Consortium

Using #AI to increase #RareDisease #GWAS discoveries by up to 100%. One of the largest integrations of #GWAS and #FunctionalGenomics. Amazing collaboration with Kexin Huang and team!

Terrific work from Iftikhar J. Kullo. *10y* fu MI-GENES trial (ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/CI… Circulation) now shows that CAD PRS disclosure vs not on top of clinical risk disclosure for intermediate risk adults leads to reduction in MACE ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/CI… Circulation: Genomic and Precision Medicine #ACC25 Small trial

Happy to organize a session “Family-based association studies: The post GWAS-era” at STATGEN2025! All the talks and the discussion came together so well thanks to Alex Strudwick Young Debashree Ray Ziqiao Wang and Dan Schaid.
