Dr Huml shares some interventions to address barriers. One of them is for transplant centers to be transparent in their criteria for eligibility so patients can be referred to centers that would best suit them. They’ve been able to do this in Ohio! #NKFClinicals

IR refused tunneled hd catheter placement because hemoglobin was less than 8 g/dL ( pt hgb was 7.8 g/dL). Is there any evidence to support a particular hgb threshold for catheter placement? #askrenal

Joel M. Topf, MD FACP 1) Thanks Joel. I cannot imagine my professional trajectory had it not been for landing at Rush Nephrology in 1985. SGLT2i is all the rage, but renoprotection all started with RAASi that he took from Dr. Brenner's lab to clinical practice. It changed EVERYTHING for pts with CKD

Joel M. Topf, MD FACP Rush Nephrology 2) Dr. Lewis was also a pioneer in lupus nephritis following the legacy of Kark, Muehrcke, Pirani and Pollack, all directly or peripherally related to Rush. Below are the first “Lupus Nephritis” textbook 1957 and Dr. Lewis’ update in 1999 and 2nd edition in 2011.

Dr. Salata was an outstanding role model who dedicated his career to education and mentorship- something I personally benefited from during my residency at Case Western/UH IM Chiefs but more imp he exemplified kindness in every aspect. His loss will be deeply felt and he will be greatly missed.
