Nina Wilson did not just lose a close friend when her Sheffield United teammate Maddy Cusack died in 2023 - she lost her love for the game. She tells Daniel Taylor how her old club and women’s football failed its players - and why she decided to quit.

With gratitude to nina for trusting us with this story and having the courage to speak out. Not easy when so many people in the game - and my own industry, sadly - don’t want to face up to these issues. Nina puts it better than me and she’s absolutely right.

The fact that nina has quit the sport that she is incredibly talented at, is the stark reality of what football can do to a person, Nina lost a friend and now no longer trusts the game. Wishing Nina the best and here’s hoping that we can all change the narrative.
