It's the anniversary of the 1994 Northridge CA earthquake. Destroyed my home in Studio City. The memory of that sound is forever, a combination of trains and planes and trucks roaring down the hall all at once.

Happy, happy, happy. My book, "The Glory Road" is excerpted. It's the chapter where Mother learned Johnny Cash was recording a song she wrote. theagingofaquarius.com/ag_blog/my-boo…

Someone gives you sweetpeas to take home in a bottle that fits in your car's cup holder and you run errands and leave them in the sun. When you get back, your car smells like heaven, if heaven smells like sweetpeas. And if it doesn't, maybe it should.

First time visiting my book in a library. They showed The Grand and I to the Music section and took a picture. I've always wanted the history of my parents' music to be in a library. It's one of the reasons for writing it and more satisfying than I could have imagined. Sacramento Public Library

Daddy. Rev. Raymond Jones. Oldest of 10. Son of a sharecropper. Picked his share of cotton. Studied shape note singing in a country church in Arkansas. Played rhythm guitar. Loved a beautiful, ambitious woman. Taught his kids to cook and sing.

Love this picture from a friend in Ohio. Here in Northern California, skies are clouding over, promising today's rain will be a cold one. From North Carolina author, Ashley English, "I wilt in the heat and positively thrive in cold weather and grey skies." Me too, Ashley.

The looking-forward-to part of life is the only thing I can control. I get to decide when it starts and what it means. It puts the shine on everyday things if there's any shine to be found. theagingofaquarius.com/ag_blog/antici…

It's National Siblings Day. Here we are, all three of us with rhyming middle names: Donna Kaye, Leslie Ray and Nita Faye. 1952 Arkansas. I didn't know I'd be the one left to tell our stories.
