Antibiotic Steward Bassam Ghanem 🅱️C🆔🅿️🌟 The Lancet I was so excited to see that there was finally a study evaluating abx-loaded bone cement!... then I see that it was just low-dose vs high-dose cement. 😞 If you're setting up an RCT, how in the world is "standard-of-care" not cement without abx at all?!

Do clinical trials of antimicrobial agents give clinicians the information they need in order to change guidelines and revise their prescribing patterns? A thread on a new way to analyze clinical trial results

Collaborative, interprofessional (partnered) medication charting and prescribing models are being introduced at many Australian hospitals. These models reduce the risk of medication errors at admission and discharge, and reduce patients’ length of hospital stay. One high-risk

Gus Hamilton Jason Roberts @jpogue1 David Paterson More & more trials are like this, right? To prove benefit for a small group you can’t readily identify you must apply an intervention broadly & 🙏 to stats Gods. Then attention shifts to better tools for identifying the group likely to benefit, cost-benefit, and reducing costs…

Similar to our usual practice of starting broad and de-escalating as microbiology comes through, it would make sense to start with continuous infusion, and 'de-escalate' to other drugs / intermittent dosing if the infecting organism / MIC / renal clearance allows

Antibiotic Steward Bassam Ghanem 🅱️C🆔🅿️🌟 So no stat significant difference in: - rate of FN - microbiologically confirmed infection - bacteraemia - hospitalisation - ICU admission - 30d mortality And they paint as a positive study? Also, p7 I think they have their FQ resistance % the wrong way around 7.2 vs 20.8
