2.5-minute #Himawari9 Visible / Shortwave Infrared / Infrared Window images showed signatures of 3 #pyrocumulonimbus cloud pulses (from 0832-0842 UTC) initiated by a wildfire in South Korea -- these are the first documented #pyroCb events on the Korean Peninsula.

Another storm, another Shasta County Convergence Zone (#SCCZ). Today's appears to be initiating and organizing over the terrain, and is now producing lightning. #CAwx

Seeing a lot of aerosol on the UNR MPLNET lidar along with "milky" tinge to the otherwise blue skies today. Maybe Korean smoke? #NVwx #CAwx

Anyone know if the NOAA big-data AWS repository of satellite and radar data will be hit by this? I rely on it daily for research and wildfire consulting work. I imagine many private sector companies also rely on it to provide their data feed...

The #JonesFire has a very impressive radar signature right now. This is consistent with an intense running crown fire. #njfire #NJwx

As pointed out by MNStorm, the radar reflectivity values during this afternoon/evening's run of the #JonesFire in NJ are notable. Peak values >50 dbZ are relatively uncommon, and there are a few scans today with >60 dbZ! One factor: the proximity to the radar yields a beam

Pretty amazing detail in the radar observed #JonesFire plume structure! Here is the 3D view of the plume earlier this afternoon (inspired by QuadWeather).

Pure chaos as the Jones Fire in New Jersey rips through neighborhoods. The fire was last estimated at 3,200 acres. This is insane Fire behavior for New Jersey, or just about anywhere. Good luck to anyone in there trying to fight that thing. This is just crazy.

Nice example of the "Schultz Eddy" apparent in the clouds today in the Sacramento Valley north of the Carquinez Strait. #CAwx (journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/…)

Did you know that in 2021 the Dixie Fire produced spot fires 10 miles from the fire front? Want to know how? My new paper in JGRA examines the plume dynamics driving these extreme spotting events: agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/20…

One of the things that really blows my mind about these long-range spotting events is that the embers (firebrands) must remain viable for ~18 minutes in the air, then land in a receptive fuel bed and cause an ignition. That is the sort of thing that I wouldn't be inclined to

Good looking burn with #pyroCu up on the #ModocNF today. (as a side note I'd love to sample these larger Rx fires up there... anyone know a point of contact?).
