Empty desks are a weird sight at the National Geohazards Monitoring Centre, who provide NZ with 24/7 monitoring of geohazards, but they took the time to Drop, Cover, Hold for #ShakeOut this morning!

Hawke's Bay App Well done to everyone who participated in ShakeOut and Tsunami Hīkoi yesterday! An incredible ~700,000 people took part! We were lucky enough to be joined by a group of local preschoolers (and some turtles) at the National Aquarium of New Zealand to practice being "turtle safe"🐢

🎉 Yes! I am the 4th woman in ~49 years to win this prestigious award, where my prize is a public lecture tour of NZ. Many thanks to my nominators and GSNZ ! Very much looking forward sharing the story of the Kaikōura Earthquake: Tales from the Seafloor. See ya in 2023!

And here’s our model of the slow slip events on ⁦Hikurangi⁩ in the last month alone, based on ⁦GeoNet⁩ GNSS network data. 3 SSEs going on at once in the last few weeks!
