There is a significant difference between those who are merely interested in a topic & those who are directly affected by it. For the former, it may be about completing a project. For the latter, it is often primarily about the changes that may come about because of the project.

On this #WorldRefugeeDay, may we renew the focus on protection and solutions, not what can be extracted from the refugees. #WorldRefugeeDay2025

From The Athletic: Can an Olympic champion become the first woman to run a 4-minute mile? On Thursday, at the Charlety stadium in Paris, Faith Kipyegon will attempt it. nyti.ms/4njfiyI

Good luck to Faith Kipyegon as she attempts to break the 4 minute mile. For the panel, it would have been better to have a Kenyan athlete on that table as well. Someone like David Rudisha would have been a good choice. #Breaking4

The president should not stand for re-election in 2027. But unless a strong opposition candidate emerges, there is a grave risk that he will continue to take his country backwards economist.com/leaders/2025/0…

On Dec 16, 2024, #Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Interior & National Admin published L.N 198 of 2024 gazetting the Kenya Citizenship & Immigration (Amendment) Regulations 2024. While a cursory perusal seems removed from #refugees, it shapes refugee rights to work & stay . 🧵

Very interesting times ahead, considering the wording of this statement with terms like "patriotic Kenyans" and "illegal immigrants". Refugees and other migrants living in Nairobi must remain vigilant and cautious because this government is obviously looking for scapegoats.

Some of the alternatives listed in this article might be difficult to attain. Not considering asylum applications from those "who trek from a safe country to a richer one" will not stop them from taking such journeys. Also, how refugees and "rich" governments perceive safety/safe

The Economist digs up & bigs up some old 'solutions' to the asylum issue: - keep refugees as close to home as possible - provide them with adequate assistance & opportunities in those locations - admit a selected few to the Global North by organized routes economist.com/briefing/2025/…

The legality of suspending #asylum applications & potential refoulment aside, compare this with the fact that #Burundi, with a GDP Per Capita of $153.9 [Greece~$24,751] received 70,420 new arrivals in 2025. #Greece, received only 17,598. Responsibility sharing remains elusive.

Excited to share my latest article. It examines how humanitarian data came to be repurposed for citizenship determination, focusing on an often-overlooked form of biometric border-making: the digitized mechanisms for keeping citizens out of refugee camps. tinyurl.com/bde5a6dw

Closely following the recent developments in Africa related to deportations from the U.S. It began with South Sudan, then Nigeria, and now Eswatini. Other countries may also be involved but haven't made the information public yet.

Good job Haki na Sheria. Kenyan court rules that children born from unions between refugees and Kenyan citizens are to be recognized as citizens by birth.
