Not a quick read, but a very enriching one. Mabanckou will always be known primarily as a literary writer, but he’s done a good job as a Francophone African literature professor here and I would happily put this on a course syllabus #africanliterature #darllen #books

Great to see the inaugural speeches of two professors BristolItalian Ruth Glynn and Catherine O’Rawe have been at rank for years but Bristol SML honoured them as part of this nice series reintroduced post-Covid. Derek Duncan of St Andrews was a great respondent #italianistica

This looks like one to pre-order Routledge Literature all right! I'm very pleased with Chapter 8 by Prof Natalie Edwards but each of the seventeen chapters looks interesting bloomsbury.com/us/life-writin…

Ben Okri's poetry reading Bristol Poetry Institute was beautiful, including his aborted attempt to read "my mother is sleeping". I would likely "become a child again" if I tried to read something about my late parents again in public, too. #africanwriter #poetry Bristol SML

When nerdy French literature academic couple's text messages and autocorrect meet, and things go quite wrong! Congratulations to both writers though! " That Daoud won the Gosport, btw. And Faye got the Renaudot " #africanliterature #Goncourt2024 #renaudot2024 #daoudforthegosport

Say what you will about the literary quality of Faiza Guene’s work, her cutting humour still gets me. “Les stars montantes de l’élégance sans chaussettes « ! I deal with that every day here in Cardiff #literature #humour #frenchliterature #cardiffborn

Got to see a reading and talk by author Caryl Phillips, who has inspired my academic work in many ways. Good to see Bristol Uni's Caribbean Studies Studio up and running too #afropean #literature
