In 1968 the Soviet Union invaded my mother’s country. She became a refugee and wasn’t allowed to go home and see her family for 18 years. Take a minute today to feel grateful that tanks and bombs don’t determine who governs you.

Proud of this one. On a personal note I want to say that sometimes it feels hopeless, but it is never, ever true. There are so many people who can and want to help you.

Just want to address the ‘all Slavs are the same so what difference does it make if Russia takes over’ argument. This papers over decades of deliberate cultural genocide. For example, in our lifetime, Belarusian will be a dead language, gone forever, and that is not accidental.

I have tried to stay silent but ‘there is no war but class war’ is only something you would say if you’ve been amazingly lucky in life. Devastated families, orphans, refugees living in tents, kidnapped child soldiers, those traumatized by death and violence would beg to differ.

The Ukrainian national anthem is a bop of course, but if you are looking for other Ukrainian music to enjoy I submit Go_A. Here is their amazing song Shum. The concrete dome in the background is Chernobyl. Go_A - ШУМ (Official Video) youtu.be/sDeMfL8Ib9A via YouTube

I don’t think you get how devastating these words are. They’re about people abandoned to totalitarianism twice in living memory. It’s not ‘hawkish bleating’ for them to want democracies. Words matter and you are revictimizing people who have suffered greatly.

An academic zoom event yesterday with 300 international participants to discuss the Ukraine situation was targeted by Russian hackers who posted pornographic images, preventing the event from continuing as planned. Great support for free and open dialogue guys.
