We're excited to be able to present our new work published in Acta Neuro. We show that our TDP-43 aptamer can detect an earlier form of TDP-43 pathology than is possible using antibodies in post-Mortem tissue. Chemistry Edinburgh Institute for Regeneration and Repair doi.org/10.1007/s00401…

We welcome this development from Prof Jenna Gregory. Whilst not currently a diagnostic test - having been conducted on post-mortem brain tissue - it does provide an exciting advance with potential to lead to an early diagnostic - desperately needed for MND. abdn.ac.uk/news/22988/

Researchers from University of Aberdeen and The University of Edinburgh are developing a new tool which may help to identify signs of #MND #ALS earlier. Further research is now needed to develop this into a potential test, which could help lead to earlier diagnosis.

This is a huge team effort and not possible without the incredible work done by our colleagues in the Italian Institute of Technology Tartaglia Lab who designed this aptamer using especially designed computer algorithms- without which this work is not possible

Gorgeous sunny day visiting Olivia Rifai at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. Holly Spence Fergal Waldron GregoryLab

New preprint available examining the neuropathological correlates of behavioural symptoms in #ALS For more details see the link/thread below. Congratulations to Olivia Rifai Fergal Waldron Holly Spence and our wider collaborative team for this important piece of work 🌟🤩🌟

Excited to see our hard work in print! 🪰🧠 Congratulations China Byrns, MS, PhD and everyone on the team! #BoniniLab #Drosophila #Senescence #BrainAging nature.com/articles/s4158…

Excited to announce that I and my lab will be presenting 4 projects at the FOCIS in SF, June 18-21! Join me, Olivia Rifai, Dallin Dressman & Sam Levy to explore our latest research on immune responses in neurodegenerative disorders. #Neuroimmunology #TCells

So wonderful to see Olivia Rifai back in Edinburgh to celebrate her graduation. Hugely proud of all of her achievements 🥹👩🎓🌟💃🏼🥰 Orjona Stella Taso Fergal Waldron Hannah Byrne

Important research from Olivia Rifai about NEK1 - a relatively newly described ALS gene and one that is found in the Scottish population. Taking us further towards understanding the unique pathological hallmarks and unifying features of genetic ALS GregoryLab

Our new paper from GregoryLab is out! We performed pathological profiling of post-mortem tissue in a case series of 3 ALS patients with NEK1 variants. Our findings suggest that pathological mechanisms may be different between variants, ie, NEK1 absence vs aggregation #ALS #NEK1
