No significant drought this season at this SW OK site. RIGHT image - 2024 SRPN LEFT image, resistant line - part of Yr5+15 introgression project conducted by Mary Guttieri . Recipient is Smith’s Gold, with stout stripe rust resistance by itself. Need more of these.

Have not observed this intensity of stripe rust at the North Central Research Station at Lahoma, OK since 2015. And the Lahoma site is a dry environment in 2024.

Leaf rust is well on the move in the central #wheat belt of Oklahoma. Early according to the calendar; right on time according to the crop’s development. Know your varieties’ expected reactions & that stripe rust resistance does not necessarily translate to leaf rust resistance.

#CoAXium HRW breeding nursery in a dual-purpose 🐄 system near Okarche, OK. Non-traited breeding nursery to L & R. Herbicide rate set to distinguish 0, 1, & 2-gene tolerance, and to select within segregating lines. Recovery from grazing compounds with recovery from herbicide.

OK20708 is first in line of a deep pipeline of talent. We went far beyond Pennsylvania and all the way to Romania to find something to team up with Smith’s Gold. Will it take down Showdown? Stay tuned.

Perkins, OK, low pH site (4.7). Nursery on right contains HWW & SRW ARS uniform nurseries in single 10’ rows. Check cv Doublestop CL+ every 4th row (bronze chaff). If green, crabgrass consumed the susceptible wheat. SRW nurseries have exhibited stronger tolerance for abt 40 yr.

Drought is the proverbial red-haired step-child of hazards...severe weather gets all the pub. As a no-haired step-child, I'm still envious of course, but drought is still chugging away up in far NW OK! Rains falling after 7am on Tuesday's go on next week's map. #okwx #okmesonet

Experimentally we call this one P57. The later one is P92. Both have outstanding bread baking quality and will be targeted for more southerly and more northerly environments, respectively. Both pack a healthy punch of life into every slice.

Grad student Ashton Boehm raises a torch of OK21PS821 spikes - a late, tall HRW beardless wheat for grain/graze-out/hay/ensilage acres and alternative to triticale. Incredible July standability and grain quality, derived from Big Country and Deliver. On to Jeff Wright

And if the mentioned varieties in this post do not succeed, try the wsm1 variety, Breakthrough, a product of K-State, Colorado State, and #okstate #wheat breeding programs.
