There’s a lot not to like in the House GOP tax bill. Importantly, it will raise costs on consumers and households at every turn. We rounded up 13 ways it will hit pocketbooks:

This is a really nice piece by Faiz and I agree with much of it. One real irony with the twin obsessions with both authenticity and paid influencers is that by and large, Americans do not view people who are paid to say what they say as authentic. These goals are in real tension.

We have had a decades-long experiment with denying people bankruptcy rights and it has resulted in people staying in debt for decades into retirement. Restoring peoples' right to bankruptcy and having an exhaust valve in the student loan system is VITAL.

I can only imagine the very tired antitrust attorney advising Yardi that if they are trying to deny allegations their rental pricing software was being advertised to maximize rents at a fixed rate, they probably shouldn't call it "RENTmaximizer." LOL.

Reasonable horse race. Abundance loses. Regardless of where you stand on the policy, the flashing neon sign around abundance from close observers has been that it is on its weakest grounds as a political project. Political projects need to be broadly popular. This one isn’t.

The outsized power of big corporations resonates because people experience it every day. My little town is working toward municipal broadband this year, and it's not red tape that poses the biggest obstacle: it's a well-funded pressure campaign by Comcast.

Lot of talk today upon Musk’s departure about how little money he saved us. True but irrelevant. This was a land grab. Musk is leaving because he got what he came for. This Palantir story is just the beginning. We’ll watch the long tail of this destruction unfold over years.

Kudos to @noahpinion for acknowledging that wording of the Demand Progress poll on abundance and populism was fair Kudos to Eric Levitz for acknowledging that abundance isn't great messaging for elections and that in governance Dems must draw from populist and abundance ideas

I know Abundance is about like a homeowners association in Berkeley stopping housing construction or whatever & I probably agree with them, but it is just so disconnected from the framework I encountered in a decade of economic policymaking on the Hill.
