Every nerve in my body screams at me to run. But then I see the panic in her eyes. I’ve been wrong a lot, but I know—deep in my bones—she’s not here to kill me. Because if she were, she would have done it already. 👀

The room spins, and my clothes are suffocating. Sweat wicks along my back. I don’t notice Mui until she grabs my hand. It’s soothing and cool. And when I look down at Mui, wide-eyed concern on her face, I take a deep breath, feeling myself even out. 🫨

So this is what it’s like to hate someone, I think, looking over at [redacted]. Mum says hating someone means you’re murdering them in your heart, and I’ve murdered [redacted] in so many ways. 😤

Dad’s laugh warbles through the air, and when he places an arm around Dapo’s shoulder, a lump forms in my throat. I wonder what it would be like to walk a mile in Dapo’s brogues. Would the meta- phorical blisters be worth it? Maybe. 😔
