Wendy and I are absolutely delighted to welcome Zoe into the world. Our kids are the best things that ever happened to me. They are a constant reminder that this is their world and their future and we need to fight to protect it.

UTS has appointed me as an Adjunct Professor to work within the Institute for Sustainable Futures and the School of Business. As a UTS graduate, I couldn’t have been more enthusiastic to accept the honour, and can’t wait to work with their dedicated expert staff.

Carbon emissions are still rising and the atmosphere is going to keep heating further until greenhouse gas concentrations stabilise. What sort of climate do we want to leave our children and those who come after them?

Millions of Australians face escalating risks as the planet heats up. Bushfires, cyclones and floods already cost homeowners about $4bn per year which is on track to double by 2050 unless we act. Check out my op-ed 👇 canberratimes.com.au/story/8995646/

It’s a great honour to be appointed as a fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand , a body that represents more than 140,000 financial professionals across Australia and NZ. Accountants keep track of a lot of things, including greenhouse gas emissions. So does the atmosphere. #CAANZ

Today is the 8th annual #ShowYourStripes Day. Each stripe on the image below signifies the av. temp of a year: the warmer the colour, the warmer the year. Burning coal, oil & gas is warming our planet. We must slash climate pollution to protect our kids from worsening impacts.

And relatedly: China had 887 gigawatts of installed solar at the end of 2024, and has installed another 198 gigawatts through May. We have the first of (hopefully numerous) Solar Terawatt countries.

Global warming & extreme weather could be about to accelerate as the Earth is trapping twice as much energy @ the surface as it did 20 years ago. That increase was not anticipated by climate models, making it urgent we cut emissions as quickly as possible theconversation.com/earth-is-trapp

Great to chat with ABC News. Global warming is on track for temperatures to climb 2.8C above pre-industrial times but we know the Great Barrier Reef will be all but gone at 2C warming. We don’t have time to waste - emissions must be slashed here and everywhere, and fast.

🌍✹ Great to meet GonzaloMunozAbogabir a true climate champion — from founding @TriCiclos to serving as UN High-Level Climate Champion at #COP25 & #COP26, he’s shown what bold, inclusive climate leadership looks like. Inspiring the world to act faster & fairer. 👏💚#ClimateAction

Global climate change talks, or #Cop30 will take place later this year in Belem, Brazil
.putting the spotlight on the future of the Amazon rainforest. On current temperatures projections, the outlook is grim. There’s no time to waste in cutting carbon emissions.

The terrible marine heat wave destroying marine life in South Australia #auspol is essentially caused by global warming and is not, as the South Australian government says, an act of nature that we can do nothing about. Well, we can and we must. abc.net.au/news/2025-06-3

The year to June was the hottest on record for mean (and maximum and minimum) temperatures, according to @bom_au. The trend towards hotter readings will continue in Australia and elsewhere unless we curb greenhouse gas emissions.

#Japan recorded its HOTTEST JUNE since records began in 1898 — and with a jaw-dropping anomaly! National average #temperature was +2.34°C above normal, breaking the previous record of +1.43°C in 2020, according to JMA. SST near Japan matched the June record set in 2024.

Oceans soak up 90%+ of excess heat — and the consequences are hitting SA hard right now. Australia can’t afford to wait. We need a coordinated climate strategy, as Phillip Coorey argues powerfully in Financial Review. afr.com/politics/feder

China’s renewable energy rollout is extraordinary — and speeding up. This year alone, China plans to install 380GW of solar (vs ~40GW total in Australia) and 140GW of wind (vs ~13GW in Australia).
