Will US importers of antiquities from Mexico, like this "Jalisco"| figurine currently on sale in San Francisco also be paying a tariff? Or will they "somehow" be exempt to keep the stuff coming into Robber-state US in huge quantities?

Incredibly thin stuff in The TLS review of Roberta Mazza’s Stolen Fragments. Obbink, if the allegations are true, betrayed every professional and ethical obligation imaginable — where does one find a gram, much less an ounce, of sympathy?

The conclusion misses the mark completely. No one is trying to apply modern standards to early C20 collecting. The envoi is aimed specifically at scholars who still publish unprovenanced and illegal papyri.

bbc.com/news/articles/… Pretty big news, yes, but to clarify, this is NOT "the first pharaoh's tomb discovered in Egypt since Tutankhamun's." It is, though, the first such royal tomb to be discovered in the vicinity of the Valley of the Kings since Carter discovered Tut’s tomb.

Case of the Day: In April 2022, the Manhattan DA seized a large bronze statue of emperor Lucius Verus from Shelby White's apartment; one of 89 total antiquities from 10 countries seized at once, with a total value of $69 million. (1/2)

Case of the Day: Looted in 1990 and offered at Christie's in 1999 (fetching USD 85,000), the Orpheus Mosaic was taken from Edessa (now Şanlıurfa), in southeast Türkiye. The looters documented the entire process photographically, a later 'gift' to Turkish prosecutors.
