The Dem's failure to offer the masses an alternative hegemonic project provides a gap the left must step into: what is the compelling story that speaks to people's felt needs? What is the mass movement coalition we need to build to deliver on that message?

There is only one answer here; it's socialism. A positive message responding to felt needs is why Bernie's campaign was so popular in 2016: the 1 vs. 99% was a clarion call & invitation into mass identification. We need a socialist articulation of the stakes of our moment again.
