Softening of a futile hard Brexit is welcome, as is an improved UK-EU relationship. But we need to go further in increasing NI's voice in Brussels, reflecting our unique citizenship rights. And ultimately we need to be back in the EU, which will only happen via a New Ireland.

We met with the Tánaiste this morning to discuss legacy. At the heart of that conversation was a simple truth: the focus must be on victims and families. They deserve answers, dignity and real progress. The SDLP are committed to making that happen.

Today we brought the first substantive Assembly motion on NI re-entering the EU. Alliance abstained, after slurs and petty name calling. Disappointingly, barely half of SF MLAs bothered to vote for a new Ireland. We will keep making the case for a new Ireland back in Europe.

SDLP Leader Claire Hanna challenged the PM on Gaza today, saying it’s shameful that Ms Rachel from YouTube has shown more moral clarity than world leaders. As families are killed and shelters bombed, Britain talks of war when it should be pushing for peace and justice.
