The medical system is built on the premise of massive information asymmetry between doctors and everyone else. AI is democratizing medical information at an astounding rate. With costs so unsustainable and access so poor, something is big gonna give… and soon.

It’s widely under appreciated how much medical decision making boils down the either the application of a fairly concrete consensus guideline or gestalt. GPT-4o already does this at the level of a senior resident. Health AI agents will become the new physician extenders

Medicine works by making discrete categories out of continuous biological phenomena to make it simpler to understand, but that’s no longer necessary. Looking forward to AI-aided continuous disease severity classification scores for the next generation of medicine!

We crave tidy narratives to understand the world, but the world is mostly emergent phenomena of complex systems. This bias is clearer in biology, but I can’t help but think about how it applies everywhere, in our understanding of everything.

Crazy how much of a gulf there is between “knowing” AGI is coming and the gut punch of seeing O3’s benchmarks on FrontierMaths. Humans think with so much simultaneous foresight/denial, until the visceral evidence is right there. Mind melting at trying to extrapolate from here.

I’ve been saying this since I started medical school, but it’s never been more clear than now. There is a physician SURPLUS rather than a deficit, especially when accounting for the cost of training.

The problem with most digital health start-ups is ultimately having to contort over the inefficiencies to make B2B sales. AI will make B2C healthcare so much cheaper/efficient that I predict existing healthcare systems will be completed disrupted over the next 5-10 years

I wonder how much RL in less directly verifiable domains will just demonstrate Goodhart’s Law over and over again. The more I think about it, the more seems it to be an isomorphic problem with general AI alignment, which gives me a deeper appreciation for how freakin hard

As someone who’s coding experience was previously limited to academic projects, I am humbled/horrified by the complexity of DevOps and cloud environments. I’m glad Claude is a patient teacher.

Correlation does not imply causation but correlation does (mathematically) imply predictive power. Surprising how frequently people confuse this

Fine-tuning my own medical AIs and the results are jaw-dropping. Today's healthcare debates will become moot because physicians in-the-loop with AI will make a direct care model cheaper and better than the unmanageable insurance system. DTC medicine is coming, and technology
